To change your body composition you have to weight / resistance train. Period. No questions asked. ⁣

You can spend hours on the treadmill or elliptical but that will not change the SHAPE of your body. Nor will it help build and protect your joints. ⁣

Weight training builds lean muscle mass, therefore increasing metabolism. It increases bone density helping to reduce osteoporosis & injury. It will improve your mood & decrease stress levels. ⁣

There is a place in your workout for all the cardio machines, just make sure you also hit the plates. Add good nutrition & sleep and there is your recipe for success. ⁣

The general public has been misled to believe that the more you sweat, the harder you breathe, and the more you totally exhaust yourself during a workout the more fat you’ll burn.
.
Totally untrue. Pretty much unrelated. Sometimes the exact opposite.
.
Those workouts can cause muscle loss and increased cortisol (fat storing stress hormone) production.
.
That’s why you often look flat, small, and soft when you train like that.
.
There’s a reason no bodybuilder in history has trained like that to get shredded for a contest. It doesn’t work.
.
Sprinters don’t train like that either. They’re pretty ripped.
.
You lift weights to get strong and build muscle. The more muscle you have the easier it will be to get and stay lean.
.
You diet to get the fat off.
.
The end. Kinda.
.
Throw in a weekly sprint session (with long rest periods) and you’re golden.
.
As long as you’re sleeping enough and managing stress. Those two do WAY more for fat loss than killing yourself in the gym.
